Out of the House & Into Tennessee Chic

Before we get started…

I want to wish every one a very, very Happy Thanksgiving. I absolutely love this time of year for so many reasons (and not all of these reasons are food related but let’s be honest, a lot are). My family and I are extremely close. I talk to my mom every day. I e-mail, text, chat in some form with my dad every day. And although my parents are divorced, we have remained a tight unit my whole life. They are all still in Kansas City but Nashville has very much become my home, so a couple of years ago my boyfriend and I started the tradition of spending Thanksgiving here with our Nashville friends that have become family and Christmas with our families back home. He travels an unreal amount for his job so anything we can do to travel less in our personal life is amazing. I of course miss my family but this has become a really special tradition to me. I love cooking for the Thanksgiving meal, I love getting to spend a holiday in our home and in our city, I love the thought of a bunch of misfits (our friends) coming together and spending the holidays together. It’s a new tradition but it’s been a really fun one. Anyways, I am incredibly thankful for the people in my life, family, friends and all of the kind souls at the Dry House who have given me a creative outlet and a place to feel confident and comfortable. Especially, owner Ali Ryan, you have become friend, family, champion and the ultimate girl boss.

I hope that you all have the best Thanksgiving. I ask one thing, take a minute to stop and look around you and see all that you have to truly be grateful for. We get so caught up in the day to day grind and the things that may not be going our away that we forget to appreciate the good, even the really small good, like this warm cup of coffee next to me as I type this.

Now, enough rambling and on to the good stuff.

Mermaid Waves (the 305) @ Tennessee Chic, Hillsboro Village

Ah beach-y, mermaid-y, fabulous waves, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways. Nothing makes me feel more put together and feminine than some soft waves. This is my go-to hairstyle, problem, I can’t really do it myself, at least in a way that will make it last. The stylists at the Dry House have given me that perfect soft wave, with texture and volume and the biggest bonus, I have learned with a little dry shampoo in the morning and a soft hair tie at night to put my hair up, I can make these waves last for days. I’m serious, DAYS. Sometimes three days, sometimes four, and sometimes even seven. With a good wash (that also feels like a head massage) my hair will absolutely hold-up and for me, there is nothing better because I absolutely hate washing and drying my hair. Added Bonus: as I’m sure you know, natural hair oils are great for your hair, not washing it every day has made my hair the healthiest it has ever been.

Tennessee Chic is an adorable boutique right in the heart of Hillsboro Village in Nashville. Their location is fabulous, surrounded by other great local shops, coffee spots and restaurants, this whole strip is a gem, especially Tennessee Chic. The store is owned my Megan Eftink. She’s young, kind and so pleasant to chat with while shopping. Because I always find this world to be oh so small, Megan is from a very small town in Missouri, which is also the home of one of my very best friends in the world. Megan and Mallory grew up together and here I was thinking that Mallory and her family were the only people who lived there! Seriously, she took me on a tour of her town the first time I went to visit her family and it took 45 seconds and that’s not much of an exaggeration. Besides the pleasantry of talking to Megan when you are there, Tennessee Chic is full of adorable and affordable outfits, great graphic tees which we know are all the rage these days and other goodies like jewelry and prints from local Nashville artists that make amazing gifts. Everything in these photos was found in the shop and with the holidays coming up, Tennessee Chic should definitely be on your list for you or your loved ones!
